Demetrius Anthony threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as Christ Church rolled past Heathwood Hall, 45-21, in the season opener for both teams Friday night at Christ Church.

The Cavaliers – ranked No. 3 in Class A – jumped out to a 31-7 halftime lead and were never threatened in winning for the 20th time in their last 21 regular-season games.

Anthony opened the scoring with a 10-yard run, but Heathwood’s Joe Thompson responded with a 93-yard kick off return to even the score. But it was all Christ Church from there as the Cavaliers scored 31 unanswered points to take command.

Mac Mcall booted a 32-yard field goal to jump-start the onslaught, which continued with a 4-yard run by Lee Cox, a 24-yard interception return by Alex Connor, a 59-yard pass from Anthony to Rudy Johnstone and Thomas Ledbetter’s 15-yard touchdown run.

Quan White, who had four catches for 95 yards, rounded out the Cavaliers’ scoring with a 20-yard reception from Anthony in the fourth quarter.

Anthony connected on 11-of-21 passes for 227 yards. He was intercepted twice. Cox led the Cavaliers’ rushing attack with 75 yards on 13 carries.

Christ Church, the defending Class A Division II state champ, plays at Class AAA Eastside (1-0) next week.
