The 50th annual Clyde Cole Invitational wrestling tournament will begin at 3:30 today at Oxford High School.
The two-day tournament, one of the oldest in New York, will feature several Midstate Athletic Conference programs with Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton, Unatego, Unadilla Valley, Harpursville as well as the host Blackhawks. Norwich is also among the teams expected to compete.
Saturday will feature a pair of tournaments with the Larry Goodrich Memorial at Newark Valley and Susquehanna Valley’s Saber Tournament. Both tournaments begin at 10 a.m.
The Goodrich Memorial tournament will include NV, Union-Endicott, Lansing, Maine-Endwell among others. The Saber Tournament will have Vestal and Tioga as part of the six-team field.
Also this weekend is the Mark Stephens Classic at Horseheads, taking place today and Saturday.
Girls Basketball
Harpursville 57, Windsor 32: Miranda Drummond made three 3-pointers and had 16 points in the first quarter to lead the Lady Hornets past Windsor in their season opener.
Harpursville led 21-4 after the first quarter to get off to a quick start. Drummond finished with a team-high 30 points and Savannah Murray hit a 3-pointer in every quarter to finish with 16 points. Erika Corbin led Windsor with 12 points and Phoenix Honnick added 10.
Girls Bowling
Union-Endicott 4, Horseheads 1: Renee Marcyan was consistent as she led the Tigers to victory in a close match with a 658 series (221, 226, 211).
U-E won by only 27 pins to open its season. Lexi Ripic contributed with a 238 high game finishing with a 561 series. Ruby Frei had the high game of the match with a 256 game and 614 series to lead Horseheads.
