Tim Vangelas ran for a touchdown and caught a TD pass from quarterback Mike Campbell as visiting Colts Neck rebounded from its loss to Manalapan last week with a 34-0 win over Freehold Township on Friday night in a Shore Conference Class A North game.
Vangelas’ TD run was 16 yards in the first quarter. His TD reception was 19 yards.
Gio Zefferino had TD runs of 6 and 5 yards in the second half and Garrett Federico kicked two field goals, including one of 34 yards in the second half.
MIDDLETOWN NORTH 13, HOWELL 7: Cody Thompson’s 60-yard TD pass to Jake Bertkowski in the fourth quarter gave the Lions (2-5, 2-2) the win over the Rebels (0-7, 0-4) in a Class A North game.
Middletown North tied the game in the third quarter on a Jared Mosier 20-yard TD run
Quarterback John Quinlan and Walter DeCanio teamed up for a 31-yard TD on a screen pass to conclude Howell’s first possession of the game.
MANCHESTER 56, PINELANDS 15: Manchester’s junior quarterback Devin Tomei threw for four TDs, including three to senior Mason Jones, and ran for a score as the Hawks (1-6, 1-4) broke into the win column and snapped a nine-game losing streak dating back to last season with the win over the Wildcats (0-8, 0-6) in a Class B South game.
In another Class B South game, Monsignor Donovan (5-2, 5-0) clinched at least a tie for the Class B South championship with a 36-0 win over Central, coupled with losses by Lakewood (5-2, 4-2) and Point Boro (5-3, 4-2). It is Monsignor Donovan’s first divisional title since 1993. The Griffin can clinch the title outright with a win over Jackson Liberty (5-2, 4-2) next week.
