Comedian-actor Mike Epps intends to bring a positive message today to members of Arlington High School's girls basketball team — players who sustained a headline-making 107-2 loss to Bloomington South on Monday night.
Event promoter Amp Harris and Indianapolis native Epps (whose acting credits include "Next Friday" and "The Hangover") organized a 3:30 p.m. meeting with the Arlington athletes, who weren't told in advance about the celebrity visit.
Harris said the girls need encouragement and a boost in morale.
"It's a situation where you think the whole world looks at you like a failure," Harris said. "Your self-esteem is shot. My thing is to surround them with positive people to let them know that they're not on an island by themselves."
Arlington was taken over by a private company prior to this season, causing many students to transfer to remain in Indianapolis Public Schools. First-year coach Ebony Jackson told The Star that her team has almost no basketball experience.
