MTCS battled Cosby close into the third quarter on Friday night, but the Cougars eventually fell 35-21 on the road.
The Cougars scored first on a touchdown pass from Brent Hofbauer to Austin Melton. Thomas Goodwin’s PAT gave MTCS a 7-0 lead.
Cosby answered to tie the game at 7-7, but Hofbauer gave the Cougars a 13-7 lead with a 2-yard TD run. The PAT failed.
Cosby took a 14-13 halftime lead and scored twice in the third quarter to go up 28-13.
The Cougars scored in the fourth period on Zach Brandon’s 12-yard run. MTCS faked the PAT, and kicker Phillip Bonabi ran in the two-point conversion to pull the Cougars with 28-21.
Cosby tacked on another touchdown to round out the scoring. The Cougars play at District 9-A foe Moore County next Friday.
Westmoreland 35, Cannon Co. 0
Senior Spencer Hodge tied a school record by scoring four touchdowns as Westmoreland improved to 3-1 with the homecoming victory.
Hodge rushed for three touchdowns and scored on a 36-yard interception return as well. The Eagles forced five turnovers and recorded their second shutout. Cannon County (0-4) managed just 72 total yards and four first downs
