The Fond du Lac cross country team will not be represented at the WIAA state meet after falling short at the Oshkosh North Sectional.

The closest to qualifying was senior Chris Leisses. He ran the 5,000 meters at Lake Breeze Golf Course in 16 minutes, 48 seconds — just two places and two seconds off the final individual qualifying time.

On the girls side, Megan Buechel was 19th in 15:45 in the 4,000 meter race, and Annie Moore took 26th in 15:59.

Both of Fondy’s teams took 10th place.

In Division 3, Laconia’s boys team won the Iola-Scandinavia Sectional to qualify as a team.

Chad Stahmann led the Spartans at the Iola Winter Sports Club with a time of 17:14 to take fifth. Zach Zimmerman was ninth in 17:32 and Mitchell Freiberg ran in 18th in 17:57.

Laconia sophomore Hailey Isaac will be joining the boys team in Wisconsin Rapids after taking third place individually in 15:50. The girls team took fifth place.
