Cross country: Kelly Hayes, Pearl River girls rule at Six Flags; Harvey's Sam Mackiewicz wins at South Kent

Pearl River’s Kelly Hayes finished first in a time of 17 minutes, 49 seconds, the second fastest in course history, leading the Pirates to a first-place showing in the Varsity D race Saturday at the Six Flags Wild Safari Cross Country Invitational in Jackson, N.J.

Laura Cooper and Catherine Rayward finished seventh and ninth for Pearl River. With a five-runner average time of 19:14, the Pirates were named the top overall team out of 150 teams.

Mackiewicz wins for Harvey: Sam Mackiewicz placed first with a time of 20:51 for Harvey’s boys cross country team in a five-team meet that also included host South Kent of Connecticut, Marvelwood, Christian Heritage and St. Luke’s.
