Cross country: Laconia wins boys and girls meets at Markesan

Hailey Isaac was unchallenged in winning the Markesan Invitational on Tuesday.

The sophomore ran the 4,000 meters in 16 minutes, 39 seconds. That was the best time by almost 2½ minutes.

As a team, the Spartans won a competitive meet topping second-place Rio/Fall River 42-45. Grace Russow was Laconia’s second fastest runner on the night taking fifth in 19:20.

Campbellsport was fourth. Brianna Gruenwald was 14th in 20:23 one spot ahead of teammate Liz Fellion.

Markesan was fifth led by Veronica Sauerbrei (20:44) and Hailey Drager (20:47) in 17th and 18th.

Hannah Roddy led sixth-place CWC by taking ninth in 19:49.

The Laconia boys also won their meet with four runners in the top-10 starting with Chad Stahmann finishing the 5,000 meters in 18:12 for runner-up honors. Mitchell Freiberg (18:30, third), Zach Zimmerman (18:30, fourth) and Zach Rosenau (19:09, eighth) added to the Spartans’ depth.

Jared Regnerus took fifth for CWC running in 18:45.

Markesan took third paced by Tate Hillmann in 19:27 and Campbellsport was fifth with Sam Candee taking 10th in 19:16.
