The Winnebago Lutheran boys cross country team took second place Thursday at the Kiel Invite.
Mitchell Bilitz won the individual race in 16 minutes, 51 seconds, beating the runner-up by 29 seconds. Not far behind was WLA’s Eric Bilitz in fourth place in 17:50. The Vikings’ third runner was Brady Kollmann in 14th place with his time of 18:52.
Fourth-place Waupun also had two top-10 finishers. Andrew Klapper ran in 17:30 for third, and Bryce Verhayen took sixth in 18:13.
St. Lawrence was ninth, but the Hilltoppers’ top runner was Erin Urness, who took 26th in 19:21. Springs was 12th led by Alan Burkart’s 25th place time of 19:20.
In the girls meet, Springs had two of the five fastest runners, and took sixth place as a team.
Abby Busse took third in 16:16, and Liz Bohn finished in fifth in 16:32. Busse was 31 seconds behind the winner.
WLA was next best among area teams in eighth, led by Abaigeal Theander, who was 22nd in 17:38.
Hannah Smith (43rd, 19:15) paced Waupun to 12th and Montana Braun (41st, 19:04) was fastest for 13th placed New Holstein.
The Laconia boys team had three top-10 runners and beat Waupaca 46-50 for first place.
Chad Stahmann (fifth, 18:21), Zach Zimmerman (sixth, 18:39) and Mitchell Freiberg (ninth, 18:45) led Laconia’s balanced effort. All seven runners finished in the top 21 out of 63 runners.
Markesan was third as a team with Tate Hillmann leading the Hornets in 17th with his time of 19:35. Campbellsport was fifth (128) led by 10th-placed Sam Candee, who ran the 5,000 meters in 18:53. Chase Lindgren was the Cougars’ next fastest at 20:47 for 24th.
Laconia had the runner-up in the girls race, as Hailey Isaac ran the 4K in 16:22, finishing 21 seconds out of the top spot. However, Laconia took fourth place as a team.
Markesan was sixth led by Michelle Deaver (30th, 21:11), Campbellsport was seventh (184) led by Brianna Gruenwald (31st, 21:13), and North Fondy/Oakfield’s incomplete team was paced by Jenny Schwersinski (32nd, 21:21).
Dodge County Meet
At the Dodge County Meet, Mayville’s Chance Feller took third place in 18:58. Ryan Biffert took 15th in 20:21 for Lomira’s best finish. Mayville took second as a team behind host Beaver Dam, and Lomira was sixth.
Mayville’s Brittaney Danner had the best area time in the girls meet. She ran 18:40 for 12th place. Lomira’s seven runners occupied seven of the eight spots from 18th through 25th. Ashley Nehls took 18th in 19:04 to lead the Lions. Lomira was fourth as a team, and Mayville was fifth.
Hannah Roddy had CWC’s best time in 22:38 for 45th.
