D-III H.S. Football: Wasps aim for grid perfection

No. 4 Mount Abraham (6-3) at No. 1 Woodstock (9-0)

Woodstock sets out to complete a perfect season and win back-to-back titles. Behind a dominating line, running back Ed Doton powered the Wasps to season that saw them outscore opponents 449-80. One of those wins includes a 53-13 win over Mount Abraham

“First thing we have to do is play mistake-free football,” said Mount Abraham coach Ernie Senecal, whose team lost to the Wasps in last year’s semifinals.

The Eagles will be without Tommy Lee Hodsden, who was injured in the playoff-qualifying win over Poultney last week, Senecal said.

Cody Alexander has been the Eagles’ leader in offensive production.

No. 3 Mill River (7-2) at No. 2 BFA-Fairfax (8-1)

In a battle of contrasting styles, this is a rematch of a Week 3 meeting, which Fairfax won 55-31.

Balanced Fairfax is built on a running attack; Mill River likes to air it out in a no-huddle spread.

“We can’t give up the big play. We have to make them earn it and drive the field,” Fairfax coach Mike Williams said.

“We have to take the air out of the ball, grind it out and eat up as much clock as we can.”

Fairfax is aiming for its first finals appearance, while Mill River last reached a championship game in 1999.
