The Toms River North girls soccer team got two goals in the second half to break open a close game for a 3-0 victory over Toms River East on Tuesday afternoon.
The Mariners (5-1, 5-1) took a 1-0 lead when junior midfielder Sami Santos fed a through ball to junior forward Erika Pita.
In the second half, the Mariners went up 2-0 when they got an own goal at 55:23. The Mariners added the final goal at 78:43 when Mackenzie Putman’s shot deflected off the goalie and Nikki Vollroth cleaned up the rebound to the near post.
Mariners goalie Alyssa Dell’Acqua made 11 saves and Toms River East goalie Jodi Bruno made 10 saves.
SHORE 2, POINT BEACH 1: Senior center forward Gabby Russo celebrated her 17th birthday with two goals in the Blue Devils’ (5-1, 3-0) win over the Garnet Gulls (2-2-2, 1-2-1) in Class B Central.
Russo, playing with a hairline fracture of her right wrist, scored the winning goal into the lower left corner from three yards at 53 minutes after fielding a through ball from Sam McDonough. It was Russo’s first goal of the season.
BRICK MEM. 1, TR SOUTH 0: Maria Moore scored from 18 yards out to the lower left corner off a pass from Jenna Wallace as the Mustangs (5-1, 5-1) defeated the Indians (4-3, 3-3) in a Class A South game.

SOUTHERN 3, LACEY 2: Tyler Harkness played a ball to the left corner of the box and John Starner redirected the pass from 4 yards out to the far post for the game-winning goal as the Rams (3-3-2, 2-3-2) defeated the Lions (3-3, 3-3) in a Class A South game.
The Rams rallied from a 2-1 deficit when Erik Kretschmer jumped on a defensive miscue on a clear and fired a shot from about 20 yards out to tie the game at 2-2 in the 75th minute.
Lacey’s Kevin Tonkovich gave his team a 2-1 lead with his goal at 71:00.
IN FIELD HOCKEY
SJ VIANNEY 0, RARITAN 0 (OT): Raritan’s Tara Dejoy made 15 saves and St. John Vianney’s Megan Guilbert made one save as the Lancers (5-1-2, 3-0-2) outshot the Rockets (2-6-1, 1-4-1) 19-1 in a Class A Central game.
TR SOUTH 4, BARNEGAT 0: Noelle Shirey scored two goals to lead the Indians (6-2) past the Bengals (2-4) in a nondivisional game. Lynsey Eddy scored one goal and had two assists in the win.
Bengal’s goalie Jenn Zaun made 10 saves.
IN GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
ST. JOHN VIANNEY 2, RARITAN 0: Senior outside hitter Mary Francis Prugno, junior middle blocker Haley Scheuer and senior outside hitter Bianca Piccione led the Lancers (7-3, 2-3) past the Rockets (5-7, 0-7) in Class B North.
Prugno notched three kills and two digs. Scheuer added three kills, two blocks and two digs and Piccone finished with two kills, two digs and five aces.
Senior setter Nicole Jacque keyed the Rockets with two aces.
RED BANK CATHOLIC 2, HOLMDEL 0: Senior middle hitter Brooke Foley’s nine kills and three blocks led the Caseys (8-1, 5-0) past the Hornets (3-7, 2-3) in Class B North.
Senior outside hitter Alexis Whelan added nine kills.
Senior libero Katherine Kim led the Rockets with 19 digs. Junior setter Aimee Mnich added eight digs and two aces.
POINT BEACH 2, RUMSON 1: Senior outside hitter Kirby Given propelled the Garnet Gulls (6-3, 4-2) past the Bulldogs (4-3, 3-3) in Class B North.
Given notched seven kills, nine digs and four aces. Senior setter Amanda Hopcorft added 13 assists and two digs. Pacing Rumson with 13 kills and five digs was junior outside hitter Natalie Pellizzi.
