Deubrook holds off Howard for Class 9AA title

Deubrook Area staved off a Howard comeback in a 25-22 win giving the Dolphins a Class 9AA title at the DakotaDome in Vermillion Thursday.

Deubrook running back Ryan Knutson received the Joe Robbie MVP trophy after rushing for 259 yards on 24 carries and three rushing touchdowns. Most of those rushing yards came in the first half as the Dolphins built a 25-6 halftime lead.
The Tigers kept the pace with the Dolphins’ rushing attack, finishing with 288 rushing yards to Deubrook’s 295. Luke Loudenberg recorded 134 yards rushing to lead Howard.
Deubrook quarterback Taylor Olsen threw for 100 yards on 7 of 11 passing and one interception.
Howard forced a Deubrook 4th down to get the ball back with under a minute remaining for a chance to tie or take the lead, but were penalized for roughing the punter, giving Deubrook a fresh set of downs to run out the clock.
