It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.
And Pennfield finished the baseball season as one of the hottest teams in the area.
Which is why Pennfield’s Rob Moran is the 2012 Enquirer All-City Baseball Team Coach of the Year.
The 2012 Enquirer All-City Baseball Team is selected by the city coaches and the Enquirer sports staff.
Pennfield started the season slow at 1-8, but the young squad grew up fast and went 18-7 the rest of the way and took a 19-15 record into the regionals. Getting there included winning the first district title for Pennfield baseball since 2003.
The Panthers fell short in the regionals, but it was still an eventful season for Pennfield.
Moran led the team to the turn-around season with only four seniors on the squad and only three in the starting lineup.
Joining Moran from a young Pennfield team is Brayden Bennett, Hunter Hoogakker and Tyler Moore.
Lakeview, with the best record in the city at 25-10, has five players on the All-City squad, including Jake Bivens, Riley Davis, Chet Joslyn, Brennan Kerr and Brandon Zelichowski.
Harper Creek, at 18-13, also had five players on the team in Mickey Barea, Kasey Carson, Kameron Joostberns, Brennan Leson and Kyle Smith.
St. Philip, which finished at 20-15, adds Blake Groat, Jay Luoma and Nolan Newton to the team.
Battle Creek Central’s Brody Hickman and Joseph Peterson are also on the squad.
