BOYS FIRST TEAM BROCK BAKER Oakland, Sr.

Why chosen: The Oklahoma commitment finished third in the Class AAA state cross country meet in 16:00.33. Also was Midstate association’s top Class AAA runner.

Tyler Boone Siegel, Sr.

Why chosen: Boone finished 15th in the Class AAA state cross country meet in 16:55.14. Finished second in Region 4-AAA meet.

Andre Hillsman Central Magnet, Jr.

Why chosen: Hillsman finished runner-up in Class A/AA state meet in 16:38.36. He also won the Region 4-A/AA meet and was Midstate association’s No. 3 runner in Class A/AA.

Eli Leskinen Oakland, So.

Why chosen: Leskinen finished 19th in the Class AAA state meet in 17:04.34. He finished fourth in the Region 4-AAA meet.

Conner Thompson Oakland, Sr.

Why chosen: Thompson finished eighth in the Class AAA state cross country meet in 16:09.81. Also won the Region 4-AAA meet and was Midstate association’s No. 2 runner in Class AAA.

BOYS COACH OF THE YEAR

Jason Wooten, Oakland High

Why chosen: The fourth-year Oakland coach led the Patriots to a fourth-place finish in this season’s TSSAA Class AAA state meet. Oakland also won the county boys meet and Region 4-AAA championship.

Quote: “The fourth-place finish at state was an unbelievable job for our guys. That’s probably the best overall team that Oakland has had in its history, I would think. It was a super-competitive year. It was a huge accomplishment. These last four years have been amazing to see these guys get better each year. Winning the region four years in a row and finishing in the top 10 (at state) four years in a row goes to show you how strong these seniors were.”

GIRLS FIRST TEAM Trisha Frazer Siegel, Sr.

Why chosen: Frazer finished 12th in the TSSAA Class AAA state meet in 19:55.90. She also finished second in the Region 4-AAA meet.

Nicole Gardner Siegel, So.

Why chosen: Gardner won the TSSAA Class AAA state meet in 18:44.13, winning by more than 13 seconds. She also won the Region 4-AAA meet.

Claudia Smith Central Magnet, So.

Why chosen: Smith finished fourth in the TSSAA Class A/AA state meet in 20:35.35. She won the Region 4-A/AA meet.

Hannah Waggoner Oakland, Sr.

Why chosen: Waggoner, a first-year runner, finished 32nd in the TSSAA Class AAA state meet in 21:01.17. She finished sixth in the Region 4-AAA meet.

Kiera Weems Siegel, Jr.

Why chosen: Weems placed 53rd in the TSSAA Class AAA state meet in 21:39.41. She also placed fifth in the Region 4-AAA meet.

GIRLS COACH OF THE YEAR

Phil Young, Siegel High

Why chosen: The fifth-year coach helped guide the Lady Stars to a runner-up performance at the TSSAA Class AAA state meet. It marked the best finish in the girls’ program’s history. Siegel also had its first state cross country champion in Nicole Gardner.

Quote: “It was pretty remarkable. We were supposed to finish, if you look at the times (entering state), sixth. We talked about it that day. I told them to worry about yourself and not others. I was totally taken aback.”

DNJ prep editor Tom Kreager selected the teams through observations during the season and from results during the season.
