Dover High School senior Erin Wood signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Pace University softball team next year.
Wood, who was Dover’s starting shortstop this season, hit .571 with five home runs, 20 RBI, 24 runs scored and seven doubles.
“It’s exciting to sign and at the same time it is a big relief for me,” Wood said. “After putting so much time and work into softball these past six years, it is just a great feeling to know where I am going to play in college.”
During her six seasons on varsity, Wood was an All-Section 1 selection three times (2009, ’11, ’12) and was an honorable mention twice (’08, ’10).
Dover coach Kelly Pylypshyn described Wood as the offensive and defensive leader of the team this season.
“I think Pace will be a great fit for Erin,” Pylypshyn said. “She works really hard and I think it’s good she is going to a place that gives her a chance to play a lot. I am extremely proud of everything she has accomplished.”
Division II Pace is located in Pleasantville. For softball, Pace competes in the Northeast 10 Conference. This season the Setters went 28-20 and 15-15 in the conference.
“When I visited Pace I really felt comfortable,” Wood said. “The coaching staff and the players were very welcoming to me and it was a beautiful campus. I am sure it is where I want to play and I am excited to enroll.”
