IOWA BASEBALL: Jake Reinhardt sits in his room surrounded by Iowa Hawkeye memorabilia.
Next year, the Dowling Catholic senior will be living in the middle of Hawkeye nation.
The Maroons pitcher has verbally committed to play baseball with the Hawkeyes.
“I’ve been a fan since day one,” Reinhardt said.
The right-handed pitcher posted a 4-2 record with a 1.29 ERA, striking out 43 hitters in 431/3 innings as a junior last season.
Reinhardt also fielded offers from South Dakota State, Morehead State and Kentucky. His father Scott attended Iowa, and his brother Ryan is a student there now.
“I’ve always loved them,” Reinhardt said of the Hawkeyes.
Reinhardt, whose fastball has been clocked in the high 80s, becomes the sixth Dowling Catholic pitcher to commit to a Division I school in the past three years.
“They’re getting somebody I think that can come in and help right away,” Maroons coach Tim O’Neill said.
Reinhardt will join Dowling graduate Jake Yacinich, who is an infielder for the Hawkeyes.
“I feel like I have a pretty good opportunity to play there,” Reinhardt said.
