The Dunbar Tigers made the most of the weather conditions at Joe Franza Stadium in Avon Park on Friday, cruising to the victory over Avon Park in a District 4A-6 game.
The Tigers scored all four offense touchdowns with a stiff wind at their back, including two by quarterback Daniel Cobb in the first 5:33 of the game, as they took a quick 12-0 lead.
Cobb raced into the end zone from 16 yards out on the Tigers’ opening possession of the game and scored from 11 yards out the next time Dunbar had the ball. The Tigers were held to just a field goal over the final 18 minutes of the half.
“We got up 15-0 right away and then kind of went through the motions and shot ourselves in the foot a few times,” said Dunbar coach Phil Vogt. “We came out with a little different attitude and some intensity in the second half.”
The Tigers (7-1, 4-0) play Booker next week. Avon Park (1-7, 0-5) has a bye.
