Emma Valentine and Gabby Stein lead Maine-Endwell field hockey to victory

Emma Valentine and Gabby Stein each scored twice as Maine-Endwell cruised past East Syracuse-Minoa of Section 3, 4-0, on Saturday in a Class B state quarterfinal.

The Spartans (14-3) got off to a quick start with three straight goals to take a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Valentine moved to the forward line for the first time this season and did not have any trouble transitioning to the new position.

The Spartans dominated possession and limited any offensive opportunities for East Syracuse-Minoa, which had zero shots and one corner.

Rachael Aird had 12 saves for East Syracuse-Minoa, which is coached by Greene alum Kate Sergi.

Maine-Endwell will play either Roundout Valley or Burnt Hills next Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.

Class C

* Greene 4, Cazenovia 0: Jahna Driscoll scored twice as Greene knocked off two-time defending state champion Cazenovia in a quarterfinal at Cicero-North Syracuse.

Emily Gascon and Emma Anderson also scored for Greene, which led 2-0 at halftime.

Greene outshot Cazenovia 8-1.
