The 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Women’s Springboard began today near Seattle, Wash., and 2005 Euclid High School graduate Katie Carter is one of the athletes hoping to make the 2012 U.S. National Team.

Carter, a University of Akron graduate and 2009 Mid-American Conference diving champion, failed to qualify in 2011, but earned the right to participate at the trials with a 12th-place finish at the 2010 Winter Nationals.

Katie, 24, had actually stop training to work in graphic design when her coach Chris Medvedeff pulled her into his office to tell her the news.

There it was – No. 12 on the list: Katie Carter.

“It’s amazing; it’s a dream come true,” Carter said. “It was always my goal to make the Olympic trials.”

The top 18 divers from this morning advanced to the semifinals tonight. The finals will be held on Saturday.

The top two divers will qualify for the U.S National team and participate in the 2012 London Olympics.

“I’m going to do my best – the best that I can do –  and give my best performance and see what happens,” Carter said.
