Evergreen Stops Conifer 17-10 In 2012 Mountain Bowl

By

Though they’d won the last two editions of the Mountain Bowl, Evergreen (2-2, 1-0) entered as the underdog to a Conifer (3-1, 0-1) team that had averaged nearly 44 points per game.

The Jaguar defense harassed Lobo quarterback Thomas Kim all day.  Trailing 7-3 at half, Conifer drove deep into Evergreen territory.  That’s when Ryan Hays intercepted a Kim pass.  Evergreen marched down the field and went up 14-3 on a touchdown run by Joe Danni.

Following a fourth quarter field goal the Jaguars appeared to have the game in hand.  Trailing 17-3 with just under seven minutes left Conifer drove down field and pulled to within seven on a Brandon Payer touchdown run.

Conifer had two more chances to tie but turned the ball over on downs each time.

Evergreen visits Arvada next Saturday while Conifer heads to Lutheran.
