After not being able to stop the pass last week, the Campbellsport football team’s pass defense helped lead the Cougars to a 29-21 EWC win at Sheboygan Falls on Friday.
Campbellsport (2-1, 1-1) picked off the Kiel quarterback twice and held him to 4-of-12 passing.
“(Last week) we kind of panicked when things didn’t go well and tonight the kids kept their composure,” Campbellsport coach Bob Hepp said.
One of those interceptions turned into a 35-yard touchdown return by Trenton Buerger in the first quarter.
Kiel made it close going into the fourth quarter, but the Cougars scored on touchdown runs by Jimmy Hughes and Taylor Straschinske.
Straschinske led Campbellsport on the ground with 71 yards on 19 attempts.
Hepp said his team had the best week of practice in the past three years, and “they wanted to redeem themselves.”
Plymouth 47, New Holstein 0
The visiting Huskies were held to negative yardage against the much larger Plymouth team.
Mark Sippel completed two passes for 17 yards for New Holstein.
Two Rivers 57, Waupun 8
Two Rivers’ ruthless offense accumulated 559 yards and the Purple Raiders scored on an 80-yard pass play late in the game.
Waupun scored its only touchdown in the third quarter when Keegan Pinch connected with Ryan Schmitt on a 15-yard pass. Jordan Daane ran 10 times for 92 yards as the Warriors’ leading rusher.
