Fall state tournaments are moving forward as planned

The state scholastic fall championship tournaments will move forward for the most part under the schedule announced this past Monday, NJSIAA Executive Director Steve Timko announced on Friday in a press release through the NJSIAA’s public relations firm Success Communications Group.

“Our member schools that, while the physical environment isn’t ideal, their kids are eager to play and they’re committed to completing their regular season games,” Timko said. “Our role is providing those who can participate in post-season play with a safe, fair stage on which to do so.”

Timko said the final decision to participate in the state tournament is up to each school. He also said the NJSIAA will help schools coordinate venues and resources.

“We’re here to assist programs get back on their feet, and there is no shame if a school determines it simply cannot participate in tournament play,” Timko said. “Likewise, there’s no shame in student athletes lacing up their cleats for a few hours to help take their minds off the devastation that surrounds our commuinities.”

The NJSIAA Football Playoffs will be seeded at noon Sunday at NJSIAA headquarters, Robbinsville, Timko said. Schools who are playing Sunday games must call 609-610-4264 with who won the game as soon as the game is over so the final power point totals for all the teams is correct and teams are seeded correctly.
