Fond du Lac golfer Madeline Krolczyk had a memorable first WIAA regional. The freshman shot 93 at the Division 1 West De Pere Regional on Wednesday, and barely missed out on a sectional spot.
Four teams advance to the sectional round, plus four other individuals. Ashwaubenon and Sheboygan tied for the final team spot, and had a one-hole playoff. If Ashwaubenon had won, Krolczyk would have earned the final individual spot. Instead, Sheboygan won, and the Cardinals’ season was officially over.
“Madeline played fantastic today. She was very excited and very nervous when she completed her round unsure if her 93 would be low enough to advance on,” Fondy coach Paula Suemnicht said, adding it was tough for the entire team to watch the playoff. “I know she was disappointed, but this is a fabulous accomplishment for a freshman.”
Krolczyk shot 49 on the front and 44 on the back nine. Also for Fondy, Monica Develice carded a 106, Shania Schibbelhut shot 111, Nicole Ruedinger had a 112, and Maria Bullock finished at 114.
