Former Leon High volleyball standout Annemarie Chin earned Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday.

Chin, a freshman at High Point University, was named the MVP of the HPU Classic over the weekend.

The defensive specialist averaged 4.85 digs per set to help HPU to wins over George Mason and Virginia Tech, and set a career-high with 22 digs in HPU’s five-set win over the Patriots.

She topped it with 23 digs in the win over Virginia Tech to close the tournament on Saturday. She did not have a reception error in either of HPU’s wins over George Mason and Virginia Tech.

Chin also had 18 digs against Loyola Marymount and 14 in the win over UNCG. She averaged 4.28 digs per set for the week and chipped in eight assists and two aces.

Chin’s sister Wavie is also on the High Point volleyball team.
