The Fort Collins High School tennis team got the season started in dominant fashion on Tuesday, defeating Mountain Range 7-0 while losing only one set the entire match in a Front Range League showdown.
No. 1 singles player Sam Buffington won his match in two sets, 6-3, 7-5. All three singles matches were won in straight sets by Fort Collins. No. 1 doubles was the only match that went to three sets on the day with Eric Bleem and Tony Steinle prevailing after losing the first set.
Fort Collins next takes the court Thursday in a home match against Fairview.
MONARCH COAL CREEK INVITATIONAL — In a Front Range League golf match Rocky Mountain High School finished the highest of Northern Colorado schools, coming in tied for second with a team score of 232. Boulder won the match with a score of 229, with Legacy tied with the Lobos.
A.J. Ott of Fort Collins High School had the lowest individual total with a score of 73. Tyler Bricker of Fossil Ridge, Ryan Wilmot and Matt Bell, both from Rocky Mountain, finished tied for fifth with individual scores of 76. Sam Loftis and Caleb Maxey had the lowest scores of the day for Poudre, both finishing at 88.
Fort Collins finished ninth in team scores with a 241, with Fossil Ridge right behind with a score of 242. Poudre finished with a score of 269.
