Fort Collins boys blast Cheyenne South


Ryan French scored 22 points Friday night to lead Fort Collins High School’s boys basketball team to a huge home victory over Cheyenne South, 89-54.

Fort Collins (2-2) had four players score in double figures. Chase Thurgood had 14, Austin Hunt had 14 and Will Duggan had 13. The Lambkins held a 41-17 lead at the half. The Lambkins lowest scoring quarter of the game was the fourth, with 14. They held Cheyenne South to only 4 points in the first quarter to help build a huge early lead.

POUDRE 74, ERIE 38 — Senior Lake Reed poured in 34 points and Sawyer Finley added 14 as the Impalas rolled to victory .

Reed, Finley and Trent McFall hit two 3-pointers apiece as the Impalas (1-2) earned their first win of the season in a game played at Centaurus High School as a part of the Boulder Valley Invitational. Poudre plays at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the final game of the tournament.

Poudre jumped out to a quick 23-9 lead after one quarter and was ahead 55-26 after three quarters.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN 60, GATEWAY 39 — Antonio Martell hit four 3-pointers and had 17 points while Michael Dermody led Rocky Mountain with 19 points to help the Lobos beat Gateway .

Rocky Mountain (2-3) jumped out to a 41-17 lead at halftime. Eight players scored for the Lobos as they won their second game of the ThunderRidge Tipoff. Rocky Mountain will conclude the tournament at 11:40 a.m. Saturday at ThunderRidge High School.

WINDSOR 77, GREELEY WEST 61 — At the semifinal of their own tournament, Windsor beat Greeley West to advance to the final. The championship game will be played Saturday at 2:30 p.m., following the girls title game.

Dalton Walker led the Wizards with 23 points. Lucas Watts added 15, Ales Baldwin had 12 and Dylan Ochsner had 11. Windsor (4-1) had at least 17 points in each quarter.


WINDSOR 43, MOUNTAIN VIEW 31 — Brooke Pemberton exploded for 34 points to lead Windsor to the championship game of the Northern Colorado Basketball Classic, to be played at 1 p.m. Saturday at Windsor High School.

The semifinal was played at Greeley West with Pemberton putting on a show. The sophomore accounted for 79 percent of Windsor’s (4-1) points. No Wizard other than Pemberton scored more than 2 points.

FORT COLLINS 60, CHEYENNE SOUTH (Wyo.) 41 — Fort Collins used a balanced scoring attack to take down Cheyenne South on the road. Payton Humpal led the Lambkins with 11 points, McKaylee Thurgood and Nicole Lange added 10 each.

Fort Collins (2-2) used stingy defense to hold down Cheyenne South. The Lambkins held their hosts under 10 points in both the first and third quarters.

PAWNEE 50, HIGHLAND 32 — Highland scored the first two points of the night, but Pawnee immediately went on a 14-0 run that was too much for the Huskies to overcome as they suffered their first loss of the season.

Jamie Clawson had 9 points and 5 rebounds for Highland (2-1) and Jenna Frink had 8 points, 7 assists and 5 steals.
