AJ Ott, a freshman at Fort Collins High School, finished five strokes back and in a tie for sixth place Tuesday after the final round of the boys golf Class 5A state championships.
Ott shot a second consecutive round of 4-over par 75 at Rolling Hills Country Club. He finished five shots behind winner Kyler Dunkle of Douglas County. Dunkle shot a 1-under 70 in the second round and won by a stroke.
Ott had five bogeys and one birdie, which came on No. 15, in his second round. He had three birdies and seven bogeys in his opening round.
“AJ was his solid, consistent self,” Lambkins coach Kyle Tregoning said. “We’s not happy when he shoots 75; he thinks he should shoot par or less every time out. But he battled on what was not an easy course. It was very challenging for everyone.”
Fossil Ridge’s Tyler Bricker also had a solid showing, finishing in 14th place after shooting rounds of 77 and 76.
SaberCats teammate Austin Preiss shot an 88 on the second day and finished tied for 50th. Collins’ Hunter Paugh bounced back from his 103 on the first day with a second-round 86 and placed 80th.
