Fort Collins girls advance to title game


Ashley Evans had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds Friday night and the Fort Collins High School girls basketball team raced past host Heritage 63-39 to advance to Saturday’s title game in the Holiday Hoopla Tournament in Littleton.

The Lambkins (5-2) will face Mesa Ridge (7-0) in the championship game at 6 p.m. Saturday at Heritage. Mesa Ridge ranked No. 4 among the state’s Class 4A schools by the Denver Post.

Nicole Lange scored 14 points, Kasey Dietrich had 13 and Jamie Tafoya also had 10 for Fort Collins, which led 31-17 at halftime.

Evans went 5 for 5 from the floor and also had four blocks and five steals.

“They went to a zone, and our bigs did a nice job of looking for each other and getting the open person the basketball,” Fort Collins coach Kyle Tregoning said, referring to Evans, Lange and Tafoya.
