Senior Maddie Gudenkauf picked up the win on the mound for the Fort Collins High School softball team Saturday and had a pair of hits in the Lambkins’ 6-1 win over Chaparral.
Gudenkauf went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Lambkins in their season opener.
Freshmen Mackenzie Rowlett (2 for 2, RBI) and Taylor White (1 for 2, RBI) also had good days at the plate for Fort Collins (1-0).
Chaparral jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning, but that was all of the runs the Wolverines would score as Fort Collins plated one in the first, one in the second and two in the third to lead 4-1 after three innings.
“It was a good home opener,” said coach Keith Aragon, who began his 20th season with the Lambkins. “The team played hard.”
Gudenkauf gave up two hits and one unearned run while striking out a pair of batters in seven innings to get the victory.
Fort Collins plays its first road game of the season at 4 p.m. on Thursday when it travels to Westminster.
