Four local golfers qualify for state

Front Range League Player of the Year Tyler Bricker is on his way to the Class 5A state golf tournament.

The Fossil Ridge golfer is one of four local golfers to punch their way to the state golf tournament after Friday’s regional competition at Mariana Butte in Loveland.

Bricker shot a 77, teammate Austin Preiss shot a 76 and Fort Collins golfers AJ Ott and Hunter Paugh shot a 75 and 79, respectively, to qualify. Paugh just squeaked into the tournament, surviving a seven-man playoff to secure one of the final positions.

Douglas County won the team title with 221 and Boulder finished second at 225. Both teams qualify for state. The top two teams and top 20 players qualify for the state competition, set to take place Oct. 1-2 at The Club at Rolling Hills in Golden

Fossil Ridge shot a 235 to tie for fifth and Fort Collins finished seventh at 237. Rocky Mountain shot a 247 and Poudre carded a 252.
