G-A tennis finishes third in KVA



The Galesburg-Augusta High boys’ tennis team finished in third place in the final KVA standings following Saturday’s league meet at Kalamazoo College’s Stowe Stadium, while Bronson wound up fifth and Pennfield sixth.

In Saturday’s league meet, Bronson had two flight champs and one runner-up finish. At No. 1 doubles, the duo of James Ramsey and Ryan Hagen defeated Bridgman 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 for the title; at No. 4 doubles, Kyler Scheenks and Philip Mandoka topped Kalamazoo Christian 6-3, 6-1 in the championship match; and at No. 3 doubles, Ran O’Rourke and Sawyer Maddox finished second to K-Christian, falling 6-1, 6-2 in the final.

Also, for Galesburg-Augusta, the Rams’ Sam Henby finished runner-up at No. 4 singles as Henby was downed by a Kalamazoo Christian opponent 6-0, 6-0.


Play in the Silver Division at Harper Creek High and in the Gold Division at Portage was suspended due to wet weather conditions on Saturday and will be completed on Monday at Portage Northern and Portage Central. Gold Division action Monday will resume at 2 p.m., and Silver Division play Monday will resume at 3 p.m.
