Girls basketball: Arlington scores first 30 points, cruises

After weeks of preparation, Kim Costello knew her Arlington High School girls basketball team was ready to start the 2012-13 season.

“Our kids were just eager to play,” the coach said.

It showed Monday.

Freedom Plains’ Admirals scored the game’s first 30 points against Carmel on the way to a 70-32 home victory.

“We held them scoreless for the first quarter-and-a-half. You can’t ask for much more than that,” Costello said. “Everyone went in, and everybody contributed.”

Shannon Doyle led all scorers with her 19 points in the win, while teammate Sarah Kaminsky added 16 points for Arlington, which played without Jocelyn Strack and Jancy Sherwood due to injuries.

Arlington, which led 35-5 at halftime, also got 12 points from Jackie Rywalt, nine points from Gabi Esposito and 11 rebounds from Alexis Holzmann.

The Admirals open Roy C. Ketcham’s annual Lisa Moray Memorial on Friday with a 6:15 p.m. tip against Red Hook.
