The Poughkeepsie High School girls basketball team will head into its winter break on a positive note after dispatching visiting Brewster 50-40 on Friday.
Down 22-17 at halftime, the Pioneers (3-3) outscored the Bears 21-7 in the third period and never looked back.
“In the first quarter we came out slow, and before we knew it, we looked at the scoreboard and it was 20-6,” Poughkeepsie head coach Michelle Zmudosky said. “Then we just stepped it up.”
Indeed they did: The Pioneers ended the half on an 11-2 run and outscored 3-2 Brewster 33-18 after the break.
The Pioneers’ offense was led by E’lantra Means (game-high 17 points), Kiara Pittman (14) and Callia Cropp (11).
Poughkeepsie plays Franklin D. Roosevelt on Thursday in the opening round of the Holiday Classic tournament in Millbrook.
