Girls Basketball: St. Mary's Springs dispatches Howards Grove

By

The 13 free throws Howards Grove missed Saturday afternoon may have been the difference in the Tigers’ 41-29 loss at St. Mary’s Springs.

Hayley Rickmeier led Howards with eight points, and Payton Bramstedt added six more. But 6-for-19 shooting from the charity stripe helped keep the Tigers behind the home team.

(To be fair, St. Mary’s Springs shot only 1-for-4 from the line. And if both teams had shot 100 percent from the free throw line, Springs still would have won.)

Both teams were tied at 7-7 after the first quarter, but a 12-point surge in the second quarter moved Springs to a 19-12 lead by halftime.
