Girls hockey: Graves named Red Panthers coach

Rachael Graves has been named the head coach of the Point-Rapids co-op girls hockey team in an announcement made Thursday. She replaces Hayli Hupp, who stepped down at the conclusion of the 2011-12 season.

Graves, who enjoyed a successful four-year career as a defenseman for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, spent the previous three years as an assistant coach with the Pointers.

She is a full time physical education teacher in the Stevens Point school district, and also has coached junior high softball.

“Rachael brings to our Red Panther program a tremendous amount of passion for and knowledge of ice hockey,” Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln athletic director Bill Vickroy said.

“Her experience as a player and as coach has given her insight and knowledge of what needs to be done to maintain the high level of excellence that has been established in our co-op girls hockey program.”

The Red Panthers co-op program began competitive play during the 2006-2007 hockey season. Participating schools include Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, Stevens Point Area Senior High and Pacelli.
