Girls hoops roundup: Fenner hauls in 24 boards, Falls gets past Two Rivers

With Nicole Fenner in command of the glass and Staci Hasler swiping Two Rivers passes all night, Sheboygan Falls’ girls basketball team made its case as the top team in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference.

The Falcons improved to 8-0 overall, 4-0 in the EWC by knocking off the Raiders 54-42 to claim sole possession of first place in the league.

TR dropped to 3-1 in the EWC, 4-3 overall.

“All 10 girls played phenomenal. They all played a hand in this,” said Falls coach LeRoy Hamilton.

Fenner pulled down a whopping 24 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive end. She also scored 11 points.

“She outworks everybody,” Hamilton said. “She’s Dennis Rodman with a jumpshot that can handle the ball.”

Hasler had a game-high 18 points plus nine steals, as the Falcons broke open a close game by outscoring the Raiders 12-4 in the fourth quarter.

Mariah Ausloos scored 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had five steals to lead the Resorters (2-4, 2-3) to the Central Lakeshore Conference win at home.

Mari-Kathleen Marzano led the Blue Bombers (2-7, 1-3) with 21 points.

Bailey Johnson had 14 points and 11 rebounds as the host Warriors improved to 5-1, 3-1 Central Lakeshore Conference.

Lizzie Janke scored a game-high 16 points, while Jessika Dieringer had nine points and seven rebounds and Katie Bares had seven points and seven boards.

Ozaukee led 30-28 at halftime, but switched from man defense to a zone, and outscored Lutheran (3-4, 2-2) 22-14 in the second half.

Ashley Scheele had 15 points and Danielle Byrum had 10 for Lutheran.

Sophia Kiela scored 16 points and had six steals and four assists for the winners, who also got 13 points and 12 rebounds from Rachael Cecka.

Host Kiel held New Holstein scoreless in the first quarter and led 12-4 at halftime before pulling away in the second half.

Kiel was led by Madeline Dahmer who had a game-high 11 points and both of the Raiders’ 3-pointerswhile teammate Brooke Goehring added nine and Alexis Lucas had eight.

Kiel shot 5-of-12 from the free-throw line while New Holstein was 4-of-14.
