The Millbrook High School girls soccer team is playing in a fifth consecutive Section 9 Class C final and S.S. Seward is again standing in its way of a sectional crown.
The teams will be playing Saturday at 7 p.m. at Faller Field in Middletown after the second-seeded Blazers posted a 1-0 semifinal triumph over Chester at Webutuck High School.
S.S. Seward, which beat Millbrook in the four previous sectional finals, defeated Rhinebeck 7-0 in its semifinal on Wednesday. The Spartans (16-1) are ranked second in this week’s state Class C poll.
Millbrook (11-2-2) is ranked 14th in the state poll.
“They’re well coached and have a good program,” Millbrook coach Sean McGuigan said of S.S. Seward. “They’re a very disciplined team across the board.”
In Thursday’s semifinal win, Kyla Karten scored in the final seconds of the first half and Aimee Jacques stopped five shots in goal for the Blazers.
“It was an up-and-down game. We were in control and then they took control,” McGuigan said. “We need to be more consistent. We need to work on ball control because the final is going to be our toughest game of the year and we have to play 80 minutes of soccer to beat this team.”
