Step one for the 2012 women’s swim and dive team has been accomplished after a resounding 128-49 win over Waverly that pushed the teams regular season record to 11-0.
After wrapping up the CAAC Blue Conference season at 7-0 the Warriors were the only thing standing between the Comets and perfection. Fortunately the girls were more than up for the challenge.
The team was led by its seniors fittingly on senior night. Lydia Bayley was the big winner of the night as she claimed a career high four wins while Lauren Painter logged a career best score of 241.60 while dominating the diving event.
Grace Haggerty, Ashley Lopez, Alyssa Bedaine and Marisol Dempsey all logged at least one win on this special night. Sophomore Kiley Whetter used her final dual meet of the season as a springboard to next year as she logged a best score of 196.40 to place second behind Painter.
Fellow sophomore Colleen Simon won the 200 IM and freshman Elizabeth Wood grabbed her first varsity win in the 100 Backstroke. The teams full attention now turns toward the league meet Nov. 1-3, after presstime, at East Lansing High School.
A win there would clinch the schools first ever outright league championship in swimming.
