On Oct. 6, the Grand Ledge High School volleyball teams will be sponsoring a Volley-4-the-Cure tournament to raise funds for breast cancer awareness. In the month of October, high school and college teams around the country will promote breast health education as well as raise funds to help eradicate this disease.
Grand Ledge teams support the cause by donating funds they raise to breast cancer awareness foundations by wearing pink to their matches and by being involved in an educational experience that raises their awareness.
The tournament this year will involve 12 teams from around the state, such as: Grand Blanc, Alma, Jackson, Ladywood High School, Lake Fenton High School, Lansing Everett, Midland, Portland, Grand Rapids West Catholic, Unionville-Sebewaing and Utica.
Special guests at this year’s event will be members of the Pink Ribbon Crew. PRC will bring ergonomic rowing machines to the event so attendees can try their hand at rowing. McLaren will have a booth to educate the girls and attendees.
There are several options available to the community for supporting the teams’ fundraising goals. You may purchase a T-shirt at the games or from a volleyball team member for $10 going to the breast cancer awareness fund. There will also be a silent auction on the day of the tournament.
To make a contribution, mail your donation to Grand Ledge Volleyball Boosters, P.O. Box 51, Grand Ledge, MI 48837 and include the name of the person being remembered or honored by Oct. 3.
The proceeds from all donations this year will benefit the Side-Out Organization (side-out.org/).
Teams will begin play in the gym at 8 a.m. and wrap up at approximately 4 p.m.
