Tim Paske, head football coach at Greene High from 2003 to present, has been suspended for the remainder of the season.
Greene schools superintendent Jonathan Retz confirmed the move Wednesday, but declined to elaborate on the decision other than to say that Paske’s teaching position was unaffected.
“I can’t comment on a personnel issue,” said Retz, who informed Paske of the decision Tuesday.
The Trojans will play as scheduled 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Whitney Point. Asked who is to serve as acting head coach, Retz said, “He’s got assistants who’ll take the reins.”
The Trojans are coming off a 36-14 Homecoming victory against Newark Valley, which left them a 4-2 overall record, 1-2 in Division V of the Section 4 Football Conference.
Under Paske’s watch, Greene extended the program’s streak of winning records to seven with last year’s 9-1, Section 4 runner-up season. That marked the second 9-1 Greene football season in a four-year span.
Paske’s record as head coach stands at 57-32.
The Trojans follow this weekend’s game with an Oct. 19 game at Norwich.
“Tim has done a wonderful job with the program. He’s an excellent coach. I can speak very highly of him,” Retz said. “It’s an unfortunate situation. I hope we can make the best of it and get through it.”
