With Monsignor Donovan controlling its own destiny in the race for the Shore Conference Class B South title, there would be no letdown on Thursday evening.
Senior running back Grant Klimek ran for 130 yards and three touchdowns, junior quarterback Vinny Grasso added 150 yards and two touchdowns and the Griffins registered a 42-0 Class B South victory over Pinelands (0-6, 0-4) on Thursday evening.
The win leaves the Griffins (4-1, 4-0) in the driver’s seat for their first division title since 1993.
Klimek scored on touchdown runs of 20, 40 and 60 yards, while Grasso added scoring runs of 70 and 60 yards. Senior running back Connor Hafinin added a 1-yard touchdown run on the play following his 50-yard run.
Monsignor Donovan scored 14 points in each of the first three quarters to provide all the scoring.
The Griffins, who entered the week sixth in power points in NJSIAA Non-Public Group III, will play an intriguing nondivisional game at Rumson-Fair Haven on Oct. 19, before looking to cement the division title with games against Central, Jackson Liberty and Manchester.
