Gymnasts from both Fort Collins and Rocky Mountain captured individual state championships at the Class 5A state gymnastics meet Saturday at Thornton High School.

Erica Pollack won the uneven bars with a 9.7 for the Lambkins while Lauren Glover finished first on the balance beam with a 9.7 after a tiebreaker.

There are four judges at the meet and normally the high and low scores are dropped and the middle two are averaged to determine a final score, but when participants are tied all four scores are used.

Pollack was able to win the title after her hand slipped during her routine, which forced her to add an extra-high level element.

“It was awesome because she is the hardest working kid I know,” Fort Collins coach Laura Slocomb said.

Pollack also finished sixth in the balance beam with a 9.5 and teammate Sierra Toonts scored a 9.325 to finish 11th.

Marley Hesser and Marinna Dilley finished in ninth and 11th place on the uneven bars for the Lambkins, scoring a 9.325 and 9.3 respectively.

Pollack tied for sixth in the floor exercise with a 9.625 to finish off her day.

Glover lost a tiebreak for second in the vault, finishing in third with a 9.775. She also finished the floor exercise in second place, scoring a 9.7.

Teammate Keri Peel also qualified for the vault individual final, finishing 15th with a 9.1.

Loveland’s Claire Hammen won the individual titles in the vault and floor exercise, scoring a 9.8 and .985 respectively.

Fort Collins finished Friday’s team competition in second with 183.85 points while Rocky placed fifth with a score of 182.45.
