H.S. soccer roundup: Red Hook's Alexa Franceschi scores big goal


Alexa Franceschi’s first varsity goal couldn’t have come at a better time for the Red Hook High School girls soccer team.

Scoring in the 50th minute on a header off a corner kick, assisted by Shannon Berg, Franceschi gave the Raiders a 2-1 non-league victory over visiting Kingston on Monday.

Kingston’s Maegan Neilson scored in the eighth minute and took a 1-0 edge into halftime. Red Hook’s Isabelle LaBarbera knotted the score two minutes after halftime, with Kyla Gabriel assisting.

Ashley Pica turned away four shots in goal for Red Hook (7-0-1, 5-0 Mid-Hudson Athletic League).

Spackenkill 6, Dover 0 — Rachel Davis scored twice, and Sarah Glassberg and Gayle Raften each added a goal and assist for host Spackenkill in the Mid-Hudson Athletic League match.

Katie Lillis and Amy Moren each tallied a goal for the Spartans (8-0, 6-0).

Rhinebeck 2, Pine Plains 1 — Rebecca Gausephol and Christina Hatter netted a goal apiece for visiting Rhinebeck in the MHAL match.

Christina Cummings scored for Pine Plains.

Beacon 2, Yorktown 1 — Erica Blair found the back of the net in the 73rd minute in the Bulldogs’ road win. Le-Ann Dyson assisted on the play.

Blair had an assist of her own on Cirada Hall’s goal in the 22nd minute.

Beacon (4-3) received seven saves in goal from Alex Arce.

Boys soccer

Gabe Karp scored twice, and freshmen Gaetano Citera and James Hooker added their first varsity goals as Spackenkill beat Webutuck, 5-2, in an MHAL match.

Nicky Reynolds added a goal for the Spartans (4-2-1, 3-1-1).

John Jay 6, Roy C. Ketcham 1 — Kyle Cost had three goals and an assist as the host Patriots defeated the Indians.

Blake Kozloski, Nate Mansfield and Marco Selca also tallied for John Jay (7-2). Orrin Campbell scored the lone goal for Ketcham (3-5).

Jordan Bishop made 13 saves for Ketcham. Ryan Curran and Shawn Flynn shared time in the John Jay net, combining for eight saves.

Our Lady of Lourdes 3, John F. Kennedy Catholic 1 — Trailing, 1-0, at halftime, the host Warriors bounced back in the second half to improve to 6-3.

John Enkler scored at the 9:20-mark of the second half off a Patrick Burke free kick, and Ryan Metz recorded what proved to be the game-winner in the 16th minute, with Jared Dalleo assisting. In the 20th minute, Michael Boyd headed in a rebound to cap the scoring.

Arlington B 6, Poughkeepsie 1 — John Bangura had two goals and an assists as the visiting Admirals defeated the Pioneers.

Will Ackerman added two goals for Arlington B (7-1). Kevin Contreras also scored for Arlington B, which also got a goal on a Poughkeepsie own goal.

Justin Syndor scored for Poughkeepsie.

Matthew Kavanaugh made two saves for Arlington B, while Rogelio Antonio made six saves for Poughkeepsie.

Haldane 2, Pawling 0 — Aidan Draper and Joey Marigliano scored for the host Blue Devils, who improved to 5-3 with the victory.

Garrett Quigley made nine saves for Haldane.

Franklin D. Roosevelt 2, Minisink Valley 1 — Yury Wajda scored twice to help the visiting Presidents improve to 5-1-1.

Justin Piney made 13 saves for Rooosevelt.
