BRIGHTON Riverdale leads Brighton 14-6 at halftime in a Week 0 non-district matchup filled with miscues.
Ricardo Terry scored on a 51-yard run off a double handoff and teammate Mariko Odom ended the first quarter with a 52-yard interception return for touchdown for the Warriors’ two scores.
Brighton’s Brady Stewart hit Artez Harris for a 5-yard touchdown pass for the Cardinals’ lone score.
Riverdale has had numerous mental mistakes, especially on special teams. The Warriors failed to cover the opening kickoff, covered a punt without letting it roll and had an 11-yard punt late in the first half that gave Stewart one attempt at the end zone from the Riverdale 32 before halftime.
But Stewart’s pass to Kolton Childress was stopped at the eight as time expired.
Terry has 92 yards on six carries to lead Riverdale. Woodruff is 4-of-8 passing for 29 yards. Woodruff, who is coming off a torn ACL that ended his junior season in the state quarterfinals, has not carried the ball in Riverdale’s wing-T. He did recover a fumbled handoff.
Stewart is 11-of-20 passing for 113 yards with an interception and touchdown.
