Grand Ledge seniors Ola Hendler and Harris Edwards completed their brilliant high school track carers with a final showing as both were selected to represent Grand Ledge High School and the state of Michigan at the Midwest Meet of Champions held at Northrup High School in Fort Wayne, Ind. on June 9. In the end both proved that they belonged included as members of the elite participants from Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.
Edwards finished eighth in the 200-meter dash with a blazing time of 21.95 seconds, just one half second off the winning mark.
Edwards then competed as a member of the Michigan 4×200 relay team and ran a 21.4 second second leg in that event. His Michigan team won the event with a time of 1:26.99.
He completed his day anchoring the 4×400 relay team that finished second behind Indiana. Harris ran a 47.6 second anchor and his team finished with a time of 3:14.38. Indiana won the event with a time of 3:14.20.
Hendler also went out as one of Grand Ledge’s best female athletes ever as she finished third in the 400-meter dash with a fantastic time of 56.71 seconds.
“Ola broke her own school record in the 400 dash,” Comets head coach Fred Hutchinson said. “What a great way for her to end her career.”
“They both did a tremendous job of representing Grand Ledge in a very prestigious meet,” Hutchinson added. “We as a staff and a school are so proud of both of them not only to just be selected but for them to perform so well.”
