Haughton’s Lani Woods, who will move from first to third base this season, has verbally accepted a scholarship offer from Lamar State College in Port Arthur, Texas.
“They saw me play in a tournament and we went down there on a visit. I loved the area and I know a couple of the girls there,” Woods said. “I’m so excited. They offered me a full ride.”
Woods hit .352 with 17 RBIs and scored 23 runs last spring for coach Hal Harlan’s District 1-5A champs, who finished the 2012 season 22-6. Woods said she also had interest from LSU-Eunice, UT-Tyler, Delta State and Southern.
Although verbal commitments aren’t binding, Woods said she plans to sign with SeaHawks coach Michael Edwards during the early signing period, which opens on Nov. 14.
