High school basketball roundup: Carver wins Hawaii tournament title

HONOLULU – Jeremy Johnson’s 24 points led G.W. Carver in a 61-41 victory over Benson Tech (Ore.) on Saturday for the Punahou Invitational championship.

Demetrius Houston added 14 points, while Brandon Austin finished with seven points and nine rebounds for the Wolverines (5-0).

Carver won its four tournament games by an average of more than 22 points and takes a 28-game winning streak into its home opener Thursday.

The Wolverines face Prattville at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the eight-team Dwight Madison tournament.

Tallassee 54, Bullock County 46 (OT)

TALLASSEE – DiJon Paschal totaled 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Don Speake added 14 points for the Tigers on Saturday.

Tallassee (10-2) plays in Wetumpka’s Bazemore/Johnson tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Tigers face Thursday’s 11 a.m. winner of Hillcrest-Evergreen and Keith.

GIRLS

Autauga Academy 38, Hooper 28

Raegan Shackelford scored 18 points and pulled down 19 rebounds to lead Autauga Academy to the championship of the Autauga Aacdemy Christmas tournament Saturday. Rebekah Antonelli chipped in nine points and eight rebounds.

Abby Watts led Hooper with 12 points.
