Wisconsin Rapids’ Ryan Duxbury and Simon Stevenoski both scored on 1-yard runs during the Raiders 30-13 loss to Neenah during the regular season finale Friday at South Wood County Field.
The victory was the first for Neenah, which entered the game 0-7.
“It was a game we didn’t seem to get going,” Rapids coach Tony Biolo said. “We just weren’t as sharp as we should have been. Zach Bassuener and Garrett O”Neil played well and Hayden (Biegel) caught some tough passes. It was our ‘Pink Game’ and a tough way to go out senior night. (Neenah) hit some long passes and ran the ball enough to keep the chains moving. They opened the game on the first play from scrimmage.
The Raiders were eliminated from playoff contention after last week’s 21-19 loss to Stevens Point Area Senior High, but will play a ninth game.
Rapids will host VFA North Division member, Wausau West at 6 p.m., Thursday at SWC Field.
Neenah and Rapids traded first quarter touchdowns, with the Rockets scoring on a 57-yard run by Nathan VanderMause on the Rockets first offensive play of the game. VanderMause finished with a game-high 177 yards.
Duxbury scored on the short run to tie the game for the Raiders, who finish at 2-6 overall and 2-5 in the VFA after winning the South Division last season.
Duxbury finished with 65 yards on 16 carries.
The Rockets built a 30-7 lead before Stevenoski got the Raiders into double figure scoring in the fourth quarter.
