PLAYERS TO WATCH
Jordan Grove, ADM of Adel: The leading rusher in Class 3-A tacked on 308 more yards and three touchdowns last week in a 21-14 win against Glenwood. Grove, a junior, has 789 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns.
Tad Steffensen, Marshalltown: The senior leads the state in receptions (41) and receiving yards (576). He added to his totals last week with 10 catches for 179 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-15 win at Fort Dodge.
Brandon Sexton, Johnston: The junior posted a state single-game high last week when he was credited with 30 tackles — nine solos and 21 assists — in a 31-18 loss to Urbandale. Sexton leads Class 4-A in tackles with 55.
Jordan Wheatley, Adair-Casey: The senior leads the state in tackles for loss (16) and sacks (9) through four games. Wheatley padded his stats last week with three sacks and five tackles for loss in a 58-30 win against Lamoni.
GAMES TO WATCH
ADM of Adel (3-0) at Creston (3-0), 7:30 p.m.: ADM suffered a massive graduation hit after reaching the state semifinals, but the Tigers are leading Class 3-A in total offense (475.3 yards per game). No. 2 Creston allowed just 32 yards passing in its first two games, but Atlantic’s Harrison Hoegh threw for 291 yards last week in a 32-19 loss.
Martensdale-St. Marys (3-0) at Madrid (2-1), 7 p.m.: This is a classic offensive style clash. Martensdale-St. Marys features the No. 3 passing offense in Class A. Senior Trent Verwers is completing 67.9 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns. Madrid has thrown a grand total of two passes in its last two games. Junior Colton Braunschweig leads the run-dominated Tiger offense with 538 yards rushing.
