High school football roundup: Baynard's 3 TDs help Cavs remain undefeated

NEW CASTLE – Jamar Baynard collected three touchdowns and 221 yards in total offense as Middletown stayed unbeaten with a victory over William Penn in Blue Hen Flight A action on Saturday afternoon.

Baynard rushed for 141 yards with two 4-yard touchdown runs. He caught three passes for 80 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Darius Wade.

Wade also ran for touchdowns of 1 and 13 yards. Shane Horn scored the Cavaliers’ last touchdown on a 38-yard run. Deshawn Smith caught a 47-yard touchdown pass from Linwood Rideout for William Penn (4-5, 4-3).

Appoquinimink 35, Delcastle 6

NEWPORT – Andre Connally had 256 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns as the Jaguars downed the Cougars. Codi Elias sealed the win for Appoquinimink with a 50-yard interception return for a score in the fourth quarter.

Delcastle’s lone score came on a 3-yard run by Lacey Evans.

McKean 28, Conrad 6

NEWPORT – Quarterback Darius Jones had 192 yards rushing on 20 carries and four touchdowns in the Highlanders’ victory. The game was tied at 6 at the half before McKean pulled away in the second half. Jones was 6 for 16 for 110 yards through the air and had an interception in the second quarter. Emilio Laury also had a pick for McKean in the fourth. Raquan Womack scored the lone touchdown for Conrad.

A.I. du Pont 30, Charter 0

WILMINGTON – John Bell scored two touchdowns to lead a potent ground attack as A.I. du Pont blanked Charter of Wilmington in a Blue Hen Flight A game.

Bell rushed for 55 yards with touchdown runs of 2 and 15 yards. Aaron Limberry ran for 84 yards with a 35-yard touchdown run while quarterback Ramsey Lowery ran for 55 yards with a 23-yard scoring run. The Tigers (6-3, 5-3) collected 267 yards on the ground on the day. Peter Grasso kicked a 28-yard field goal for A.I. The Force dropped to 1-8, 0-7.

Brandywine 34, Dickinson 0

BRANDYWINE HUNDRED – Ra’Maj Scott ran back a punt 50 yards to start off a 19-point first quarter for Brandywine and the Bulldogs went on to down Dickinson in a Blue Hen Flight B game on Satuday afternoon.

Tyrezz Walker ran for 28-yard touchdown and Tharron Shehee added a 3-yard touchdown run to complete the Brandywine first-quarter scoring.

The Bulldogs improved to 4-5, 4-3. Dickinson dropped to 2-7, 1-6.

Tower Hill 14, Morrisville (Pa.) 12

MORRISVILLE, Pa. – Tower Hill’s Anthony Wallace scored the eventual game-winning touchdown in the third quarter and then made an interception in the closing seconds as the Hillers held off Morrisville on Saturday afternoon. Jermaine Knotts scored a touchdown in the second quarter and Wallace scored one in the third quarter, both on 6-yard runs, to put the Hillers (7-2) ahead 14-0 heading into the final stanza. Morrisville rallied with two touchdowns, the last coming with 58 seconds left, to get within two points, then recovered an onside kick. But Wallace’s pick clinched the win.

Tatnall 40, New Church (Pa.) 12

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Joe Cooper tallied 315 all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Tatnall to a victory over Academy of the New Church. Cooper ran for 132 yards, scoring touchdowns of 47 and 36 yards. He also threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Taschner and returned an interception for a 75-yard score. Donovan May rushed for 182 yards with touchdown jaunts of 85 and 28 yards.

Mount Pleasant 39, Pencader 14

PENNY HILL – Quarterback Lonnie Williams threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as Mount Pleasant defeated Pencader Charter in a Blue Hen Flight B contest. Williams amassed 146 yards in total offense.
